What the?

This morning, whilst walking the dog, I came across this beautiful thing. It looks like some kind of seed pod to me. The plant had about ten of these inch wide pods, dangling from its straight green stem which was about 4 foot high. I can't say I've ever come across one before.

Do you know what it is?

here is a wild flower identifier, i think more information than that photo will be needed.

let us know if you find it!

In that link, check in apiaceae; the umbelliferae, in older terminology. Your plant has the compound umbel and spiky seeds characteristic of this family.

See photo, here. Of course, yours seems to be hanging head down, which is unlike most umbelliferae I know.

It would have helped to have a photo of the leaves, and the plant profile, as well.

"Notice how all the stems of the flower cluster radiate from a single point at the end of the stalk, kind of like an umbrella. At the end of each of these flower stems there is another umbrella of even smaller stems, hence the "compound umbrella" or "compound umbel". To be a true umbel, the stems or spokes must all radiate from exactly the same point." From here.

Thanks Stu, I'll have a good spoack through the DB.

Susannah & Holly, you seem to be spot on with it being a species of apiaceae.

Mind, there's hundreds of them!

I'll take some more snaps of the plant next time I'm round that way.

very sci-fi looking! me thinks there will be a description of this soon to be futuristic plant in your writings? save a pic of everything that might be useful or piques your interest.

That's an interesting point Metalkpretty.

I've been collecting images that I find inspiring to the story. Three of them are on the blog. I'd not thought of this one in that way.

Until now ;)

It's an alien creature. I'm sure of it. I've seen them on the UFO...
